Content
During my MBA, case studies were central to our learning. Almost everyone focused on companies from the West—world-leading organisations with impressive stories. These were valuable insights, but when I moved to Hong Kong to work, I wished I had also studied the strategies of leading companies in Asia. Understanding their challenges, approaches, and innovations would have been far more relevant to the region I was working in.
That experience shaped my approach to teaching today. I’ve seen how much learners value content that resonates with their industries and markets. They’re not just looking for general principles—they want to see themselves in the stories, work through familiar challenges, and leave with ideas they can immediately apply.
This is why I take a customised approach to learning content. For every client, I create materials tailored to their context. For example:
-
For a global port operator, I developed a case study on PSA International, a Singapore-based leader in innovation.
-
For a banking client, I wrote a case on Trust Bank, which is transforming retail banking in Singapore.
-
For my undergraduate teaching, I create case studies with protagonists around their age or slightly older, set in a local context.
By using relatable characters and situations, I ensure the setting feels as real as possible for my students. This makes the learning experience engaging and personal, helping students connect theory to practice in a meaningful way.
These cases bring discussions to life because they reflect the realities learners face in their own lives and businesses. By focusing on local companies, relatable characters, and industry-specific challenges, I ensure the content feels relevant, sparking deeper engagement and meaningful learning.
Effective learning content must connect with learners’ experiences. It’s not just about teaching concepts—it’s about making those concepts actionable and relevant to their world. I bring this philosophy to every session, ensuring that learning is as practical as it is inspiring.
